Secure Email Instructions:

Community Resource Initiative (CRI) uses Microsoft Purview Message Encryption for secure email communications.

Receiving Secure Emails from CRI

When CRI sends you a secure email, you will receive a message labeled as a protected message. The email will include a “Read the message” button.

If your organization uses Microsoft Outlook

You can typically open, read, and reply to CRI’s encrypted emails directly in Outlook without creating a separate account or remembering additional passwords.

If you do not use Outlook

You can access your secure message by:

  • Receiving a one-time verification code sent to your email address, or
  • Signing in with a supported email account (such as Google).

The one-time code option is generally the simplest because no password needs to be created or remembered.

Replying to Secure Emails

Once you open a secure message from CRI, you can reply securely and include attachments if needed. Any replies sent through that secure email conversation will remain encrypted.

Sending Secure Information to CRI

CRI no longer uses an email portal for you to send us encrypted messages. Organizations that already use secure email or email encryption should continue using their existing secure email system when communicating with CRI.

If you need to send confidential information to CRI and do not have access to your own email encryption service:

  1. Send a regular email to the appropriate CRI program listed below requesting a secure response from CRI.
  2. Do not include confidential information in your initial email.
  3. CRI will send you an encrypted email.
  4. Reply to that encrypted message with the confidential information. You may continue using that email thread for future secure communications.

Please email the appropriate program:

Transition from the Previous Secure Email System

CRI has transitioned from the Zix secure email system. Previously sent messages stored in the Zix portal will remain accessible only for a limited time. If you are unable to access an older secure message, please contact CRI and we will assist you.

Need Help?

If you have questions about CRI’s secure email process, please contact us at 617-502-1700.
